About Clerk for Startups
What you get
Clerk for Startups gives approved applicants a discount on Clerk's Pro plan features (user authentication, organizations, and user management). Clerk does not publish the discount percentage or a dollar cap on its startup page, so treat any specific figure you see elsewhere as unconfirmed.
Who qualifies
You need to be an early-stage company that has raised no more than $5 million in venture funding, and you must apply within one year of your company's launch. You also need an existing Clerk account with at least one application already created before you can submit the startup form.
Good to know
- The application form asks for your name, company email, company website, and an optional accelerator or VC partner name.
- Approval is manual; once accepted, your discount period starts from that date, not from when you signed up for Clerk.
- Clerk's standalone free tier (a fixed number of monthly active users before any paid plan is needed) still applies whether or not you're accepted into the startup program, so you are not locked out of using Clerk if you don't qualify.
- No deadline or application window is published; it appears to be open on a rolling basis.
Verdict
Worth a five-minute application if you're under the $5M funding bar and still within your first year, since Clerk is a common pick for auth in fast-built MVPs. Just don't expect Clerk to confirm the discount size until after you apply.
How to apply
- Sign in to Clerk and make sure you have at least one application created in your account.
- Go to https://clerk.com/startups and fill in your name, company email, company website and optional accelerator/VC partner.
- Submit the application and wait for manual review.
- Once approved, your discount period starts from the approval date.
