About Microsoft for Startups (Azure credits)

What you get

Microsoft for Startups (the program once called Founders Hub) gives Azure "Startup credits", AI tools and go-to-market support. Microsoft states that you can unlock up to $150,000 in Startup credits over time as your startup shows verified progress, service adoption and sustained Azure usage.

If you are not working with an investor and you are new to Azure, Microsoft's FAQ describes the entry offer as $200 for 90 days, then an additional $4,000 for 180 days after business verification.

Who qualifies

Microsoft's application guide lists: pre-seed through Series B; a B2B startup building software, AI or technology; working towards or already at an MVP; privately held and independent (not a subsidiary); headquartered in a region where the program operates.

The partner code, explained

Startups backed by a member of the Microsoft for Startups Investor Network (investors, accelerators, incubators, angel networks, universities and similar organisations) may unlock higher-value benefits earlier, including up to $150,000 in Azure credits. Ask your investor for its 10-character referral code before you apply. Microsoft does not publish the list of participating investors.

Good to know

  • You must activate Azure credits within 90 days of accepting the program agreement, or the offer expires.
  • Once activated, credits are valid for up to two years; extensions are not available.
  • A credit card is required for identity verification and for usage the credits do not cover.
  • Most applications are reviewed in about three business days.

Verdict

Worth claiming if you build on Azure or want access to Microsoft's AI models, but without an investor code the starting amount is small and the larger credits depend on usage milestones.
