About Stripe Atlas
What you get
Stripe Atlas forms your Delaware company online for a one-time $500 fee, which covers state filing fees, next-day expedited processing and your first year of registered agent service. It also gets your company tax ID, issues founder equity, files your 83(b) election and provides document templates. You get $2,500 in Stripe product credits for the first year and access to partner discounts that Stripe values at over $50,000 (Google, Xero and others). The $500 fee is refunded if you fund a Stripe Treasury account with $5,000 within 90 days. After year one, the registered agent costs $100 a year (auto-renews, cancel any time).
Who qualifies
Atlas offers a C corporation (typical for venture-backed startups), an LLC (typical for small businesses) and a subsidiary of an existing company. Stripe says founders in over 175 countries have used Atlas; the page does not list residency restrictions.
Good to know
- You still owe Delaware franchise tax and annual reports each year.
- A C-corp is the usual choice if you plan to raise from US investors; an LLC suits income businesses.
- Partner discounts vary and are not itemised on the page.
- Atlas uses next-day expedited processing with Delaware for the Delaware filing, so the company itself is formed quickly.
- If you already have a company abroad, the subsidiary option lets that parent own the new US entity.
Verdict
The default route for non-US founders who want a clean Delaware company, and a solid one for US founders who want everything done in a day. Clerky offers more legal paperwork after formation.
How to apply
- Start an application on stripe.com/atlas and choose C-corp, LLC or subsidiary.
- Add founders, share split and company details.
- Pay the $500 fee and sign the documents.
- Atlas files with Delaware, obtains your tax ID and files your 83(b).
