About Brex
What you get
Brex combines a business account (checking and treasury), corporate cards with spend controls, bill pay, reimbursements and travel booking. The Essentials plan costs $0 per user per month and is aimed at startups; Premium is $12 per user per month for mid-sized companies; Enterprise is custom. Brex's startup page advertises over $350K in discounts and credits on AI and SaaS tools, FDIC insurance up to $6M through partner banks, ACH, checks and wires (including in 30+ currencies), and credit limits based on the business rather than a personal credit score.
Who qualifies
All applicants need a US EIN issued by the IRS, a valid US incorporation, US operations and a US physical address. A virtual address only works if a beneficial owner or control officer has a verifiable physical presence in the US; PO boxes and mailbox services are refused. Funded startups need a $50,000 minimum cash balance (possibly lower if referred by certain Brex partners). Unfunded startups, or those below $50,000, may still qualify for the business account with daily card payments, which needs any equity investment (accelerator, angel or VC), over $500,000 annual revenue, or a tech startup referred by a customer or partner.
Good to know
- Meeting the criteria does not guarantee approval.
- Non-US founders can only use Brex through a US company with real US presence.
- The perks figure is Brex's marketing total; individual offers vary.
Verdict
A strong choice once you have raised money and have US operations. Bootstrapped or non-US-resident founders will usually find Mercury or Relay easier to open.
How to apply
- Make sure you have a US incorporation, an IRS-issued EIN and a US physical address (no PO boxes).
- Click "Open an account" on brex.com and sign up (Brex says about 10 minutes).
- Provide ID for every 25%+ owner and one controlling officer, plus address proof.
- If you are accelerator- or VC-backed, mention the partner; it can lower the cash requirement.
