About Vercel
What you get
Vercel hosts web apps and sites (it is the company behind Next.js) with deploys from Git, preview URLs, a global CDN and serverless functions. Plans on the pricing page:
- Hobby: $0 a month, for personal, non-commercial use. Includes 1M CDN requests, 100 GB of fast data transfer, 4 hours of active CPU and 1M function invocations a month.
- Pro: $20 a month per developer seat, with unlimited viewer seats and one billing seat. Includes a $20 monthly usage credit, 10M CDN requests and 1 TB of fast data transfer; further usage is billed at published rates.
- Enterprise: custom.
Who qualifies
Anyone can use Hobby for non-commercial projects. A startup's commercial product needs Pro or above.
Good to know
- Vercel for Startups: the startups page offers eligible teams up to $30,000 in Flexible Commitment Amount, with Enterprise-tier access and startup support. Eligibility criteria are not listed; you express interest through the Contact the Startups Team form.
- Usage beyond the included amounts is billed, so set spend alerts on Pro.
- Hobby's non-commercial rule matters: do not run your paid product on it.
- The Pro plan's per-seat price applies to developers who deploy; teammates who only view can use free viewer seats.
Verdict
Vercel is the fastest path from a Next.js or frontend repo to a live product, and Pro is cheap for a small team. Apply for the startups programme once you have a real product; watch usage costs as traffic grows.
